Umguza School Headmaster Dies, 17 Injured After Kombi Crashes In Bulawayo

Umguza district school headmaster dies and 17 others are injured after a kombi crashes in Bulawayo. The incident, which occurred on Leopold Takawira Avenue just after Milton High School, also left seventeen other school heads from the same district injured. The group was returning from their annual conference in Kariba, a professional gathering that had concluded with an address from the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education.

The educators were travelling together in a kombi registered to the Umguza district chapter of the Better Schools Programme of Zimbabwe when the tragedy struck. While official police reports are still pending, preliminary accounts suggest the vehicle collided with a stump on the side of the road. The Matabeleland North Provincial Education Officer, Mr Jabulani Mpofu, confirmed the sombre news whilst en route to the scene.

“I am on my way to Bulawayo from Victoria Falls and just getting the terrible news,” Mr Mpofu stated, his words reflecting the sudden and shocking nature of the event.
