‘She Is Alive’: Umndeni Star Mahlalentabeni Confirmed Alive Days After She Was Reported Dead

The family of Umndeni reality TV star Flora “Mahlalentabeni” Makena has confirmed that she is alive.

The shocking clarification comes days after they announced she had died.

Family Describes Traumatic Discovery

Speaking to Sunday World, Mahlalentabeni’s sister, Nomvula Makena, recounted the harrowing moment they found her unresponsive last Friday.

Her body was cold, and there was foam coming out of her mouth. That part traumatised us deeply, and we thought she was gone,” Nomvula said.

Mahlalentabeni was rushed to hospital and admitted to intensive care, where she later regained consciousness.

She has since been discharged but remains fragile, according to her family.

Alleged Suicide Attempt and Ongoing Fears

The family has revealed that Mahlalentabeni’s hospitalisation followed an apparent suicide attempt on Christmas Eve, when she allegedly overdosed on pills.

“My mother found her trying to kill herself. This was not the first time,” Nomvula stated.

Now back home, the family says they are living in constant fear that she may attempt to harm herself again.

“We are scared she would do something like this again. Even now, she keeps asking about the money Moja Love owes her,” Nomvula added.

Claims of Unpaid Wages and Workplace Bullying

Central to the family’s distress are allegations of unpaid wages and mistreatment linked to Mahlalentabeni’s work on Umndeni, broadcast on Moja Love.

According to Nomvula, her sister’s emotional state deteriorated after she was allegedly not paid while some of her co-stars received their salaries.

She was hurting because only Dabula and Maseko were paid,” she claimed.

The family further alleges that Mahlalentabeni faced humiliation after raising her concerns publicly, saying people were allegedly mobilised to post cruel comments about her family’s financial struggles.

She told me she did not deserve what they were doing to her,” Nomvula said.

‘Ask for Your Money on TikTok’

In one of the most serious claims, the family alleges that when Mahlalentabeni pursued the unpaid wages, a senior figure at the channel told her production had closed and advised her to “ask for your money on TikTok”.

They also claim she endured abuse during filming that was never broadcast.

Maseko was abusing my sister, but they never aired that. They told us if we refused to shoot, we would be removed. She carried on because she is our breadwinner,” Nomvula said.

Moja Love Denies All Allegations

Moja Love spokesperson Nonzwakazi Cekete has strongly denied the family’s claims, dismissing them as misleading and unfounded.

At no point did Moja Love subject Mahlalentabeni to bullying, mistreatment, or unfair labour practices,” Cekete said.

She added that the star faced serious personal and mental health challenges unrelated to the channel, including domestic issues and unexplained absences from filming.

“The channel maintained a professional relationship, fulfilled all contractual obligations, paid for work rendered, and even granted an advance at her request,” Cekete stated.
