Public Warned Against Using Railway Tracks

Following the tragedy, police warned members of the public against sitting, walking or loitering on railway tracks, stressing that trains can pass at any time and may not be able to stop quickly enough to avoid collisions.

Renewed Focus on Rail Safety

The latest fatality comes days after the country was shaken by the deadly train and bus collision in Triangle that claimed nine lives and left 25 others seriously injured.

The Government declared that incident a National Disaster and provided assistance towards the burial of the deceased and medical treatment for survivors.

According to national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the Triangle crash occurred after a passenger bus travelling from Chiredzi to Masvingo allegedly failed to stop at a railway level crossing before colliding with an oncoming train.
