UPDATE: Chatunga Mugabe’s son now faces two more charges

Bellarmine Mugabe (28) and Tobias Matonhodze (33) appeared briefly at the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.

The National Prosecuting Authority confirmed new developments in the case. Authorities have now added two additional charges against the accused.

Meanwhile, the court postponed the matter to Thursday, 5 March. The delay allows further legal preparations before the next hearing.

New Charges Added

Prosecutors have added charges of pointing a firearm and contravention of the Immigration Act.

These charges add to earlier counts already filed against the pair. The initial charges include attempted murder, defeating the ends of justice, and firearm possession.

The arrests relate to a shooting incident in Hyde Park, Johannesburg. The victim is a 23-year-old man believed to work as a gardener. He reportedly worked at the Mugabe residence in the area.

Investigators continue examining the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Case Postponed for Further Evidence

The National Prosecuting Authority confirmed the reason for the postponement. NPA Gauteng spokesperson Magaboke Mohlatlole explained the next legal step.

“The postponement is to allow the state to provide the defence with confirmatory documentary evidence from the Department of Home Affairs and to enable the defence to obtain further instructions from the accused,” Mohlatlole said.

Meanwhile, the defence will review the new evidence. The accused will also provide further instructions to their legal representatives.

The case will return to court later this week as investigations continue.
