Harare Woman Fined US$200 For Cocaine Possession
A Harare woman has been fined US$200 after pleading guilty to possessing cocaine, with the court hearing that detectives allegedly recovered a sachet containing the drug from her clenched fist during a search in Mandara.
Cocaine Recovered During Mandara Search
According to the Herald, Lisa Eden Murdoch appeared before Harare provincial magistrate Lisa Mutendereki after her arrest on 2 September 2026.
The court heard that detectives had received information that Murdoch was allegedly in possession of cocaine at a house in Banchory, Mandara.
When officers arrived, they allegedly found her holding an object. The State said Murdoch resisted a search and kept her fist clenched. The sachet was reportedly recovered after a brief struggle.
Court Hears Accused Had Become Addicted
The recovered substance was taken to CID Drugs and Narcotics in Harare, where a preliminary field test was conducted in Murdoch’s presence.
The court heard that the substance tested positive for cocaine.
Murdoch pleaded guilty to the charge. In mitigation, she told the court that she had become addicted to the drug.
The cocaine recovered was valued at US$80, according to the State’s case.
US$200 Fine Handed Down
Magistrate Mutendereki subsequently fined Murdoch US$200 after convicting her of possession of cocaine.
The conviction brings the matter to a close at magistrates’ court level, following the arrest and recovery of the suspected drug two days earlier.
