A seasoned canoe guide lost his life in a brutal crocodile attack this past Friday in the Zambezi River. The incident has cast a profound shadow over the resort town of Victoria Falls, leaving the close-knit community and the wider tourism industry reeling.
The victim has been named as 43-year-old Marlven Nyoni, a respected assistant guide with the Victoria Falls Canoe Company and a resident of Mkosana. The fatal encounter occurred near the popular Kadahar Island, an area frequently traversed by tourist canoe safaris. Following a frantic search, Mr Nyoni’s body was successfully recovered from the powerful currents of the river.

The Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (ZIMPARKS) has officially verified the distressing news. Tinashe Farawo, the Public Relations Manager for the authority, provided a solemn confirmation of the events.

He stated,
“We can confirm the report of a canoe guide attacked and killed by a crocodile. Our officers attended the incident whereby an assistant to a canoe guide was attacked and killed by a crocodile during a canoe trip along the Zambezi River at Kadahar Island.”
The confirmation has sparked an immediate and thorough investigation by the relevant officials.
