Marian Marinica Hails Tawanda Maswanhise After Goal Spree Continues in Scotland
Zimbabwe Warriors coach Marian ‘Mario’ Marinica has praised Tawanda Maswanhise’s consistency and focus after watching the winger score yet again in the Scottish Premiership over the weekend.
Marinica was in Scotland on Saturday where he saw Maswanhise net his 11th league goal of the season, helping Motherwell to a dominant 4–0 victory over Kilmarnock. The goal extended the winger’s remarkable scoring run since returning from the Africa Cup of Nations.
“I am happy with how Maswanhise is playing. He is always a fantastic player with a lot of focus,” Marinica said.

The Scotland stop marked the first leg of Marinica’s European tour, part of a broader initiative to assess Zimbabwean players based abroad and strengthen the national team talent pool.
The Warriors coach said the trip, which spans seven days, will also take him to England and Italy, where he plans to meet players, their families and club coaches.
“I decided to start in Scotland where I met with Tawanda Maswanhise and we had a fruitful discussion. I will continue on that trajectory, meeting players, their coaches and parents,” Marinica said.
Maswanhise’s numbers underline his impact
Maswanhise’s latest strike saw him draw level at the top of the Scottish Premiership scoring charts alongside Rangers forward Lawrence Shankland.
Beyond the league, the silky winger has also found the net four times in domestic cup competitions, taking his overall tally to 16 goals in all competitions this season.
His influence has been pivotal in Motherwell’s impressive campaign, with the club well placed to finish the first phase of the Premiership in the top six.
Motherwell eye Europe with Maswanhise as X-factor
With European qualification firmly in sight, Maswanhise is expected to remain central to Motherwell’s ambitions as they chase a place in next season’s Champions League qualifiers.
Marinica admitted he was impressed not only by the player’s performances but also by the growing recognition Maswanhise is receiving from fans across Scotland and the wider United Kingdom.
Bigger picture: AFCON and World Cup ambitions
The Warriors coach said the diaspora engagements form part of long-term planning aimed at improving Zimbabwe’s competitiveness on the continental and global stage.
“We want to do well in the 2027 AFCON qualifiers and the finals. We are also doing all this with an eye on the 2030 World Cup. I am really happy with the work the association is undertaking,” Marinica said.
Marinica added that similar assessments will be carried out locally once he returns home, with visits planned to Harare, Bulawayo, Mutare and other centres.
