Warriors Coach Marian Marinica Speaks Out After 3–1 Defeat to Algeria
Zimbabwe’s national football team, the Warriors, endured a tough outing in their friendly against Algeria, falling 3–1 in a match that highlighted areas needing improvement under new coach Marian Marinica.
All three goals came in the first half as Algeria controlled the game from start to finish.
Marinica Critiques Team’s Work Ethic
Speaking after the match, Marinica admitted that his players did not meet the work ethic he expects.
“I think our work ethic wasn’t there in the first half. I don’t think my players worked hard enough in the way I expect,” he said, acknowledging the need for greater intensity and focus moving forward.
Respect for Algeria Despite Absences
The coach also praised Algeria, noting that despite missing several senior players, they fielded a strong side.
“They had many senior players absent, but they still had a very good team, coach, and personnel,” Marinica added, showing respect for the quality of the opposition.
Looking Ahead
The defeat marks a challenging start for Marinica’s tenure, but the coach remains focused on improving team performance ahead of future matches and competitions.

Change of coaches can demotivate players too; so he must not say they did not give their best. Maybe they’re still adjusting to the new set up.
