Wicknell Chivayo’s senior security aide, Froster Chisi, has recalled the worrying weather conditions before the businessman’s fatal helicopter crash.
Chisi was among the last people to see Chivayo alive. However, he was travelling in a separate helicopter when the tragedy unfolded.
According to Chisi’s account, Chivayo’s helicopter encountered bad weather during the flight. The aircraft later crashed in the Marondera Rural area on Wednesday evening.
Authorities confirmed the helicopter crash at around 5pm. They also confirmed that there were no survivors.
Chisi Recalls Difficult Weather Conditions
Chisi’s account has added another detail to the growing picture surrounding the final moments of Chivayo’s journey.
He reportedly noticed the difficult weather conditions while travelling in another helicopter.
The two aircraft were travelling separately during the journey. Therefore, Chisi was not inside the helicopter that eventually crashed.
His recollection could become relevant as investigators establish what happened before the aircraft went down.
However, authorities have not yet confirmed bad weather as the official cause of the crash.
Investigators are expected to examine several factors before reaching any conclusions.
These could include weather conditions, the aircraft’s flight path, mechanical condition and pilot decisions.
Questions Remain After Fatal Crash
Chivayo died alongside his wife, Lucy Muteke, in the devastating accident.
Initial police reports stated that six people were aboard the aircraft. Government officials later confirmed that the helicopter carried a high-profile businessman, three passengers and two pilots.
Family representatives also confirmed Chivayo and Muteke were among those who died.
The helicopter crashed near a farm close to Waddilove Mission. The aircraft reportedly caught fire after hitting the ground.
For now, the exact cause of the accident remains under investigation.
Chisi’s account of the weather provides an important eyewitness detail. Nevertheless, investigators must determine whether weather contributed to the tragedy.
