Minister Moyo Announces Teachers Will Be Paid For ZIMSEC Exam Marking
The Minister of Primary and Secondary Education has announced that the Zimbabwean government has successfully secured the necessary funds to pay all teachers marking ZIMSEC national examinations. This declaration aims to quell concerns and assure educators involved in the critical marking process for Grade Seven, O-Level, and A-Level exams that they will receive their remuneration.
Honourable Minister Torerayi Moyo took to his official X account on the 10th of October 2025 to make the significant announcement. He began his statement with a direct and positive declaration for the nation’s teachers.
The Minister wrote:
“I am pleased to announce that the Government of Zimbabwe has successfully secured the necessary funds to pay all teachers involved in the marking of public examinations administered by the Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC).”
He stated that this development underscores the government’s commitment to upholding the integrity of the national assessment system and ensuring educators are fairly compensated.
Fortnightly Disbursements From Treasury
The Minister provided specific details on how the payments are being facilitated, confirming that a structured financial plan is in place. He revealed that funds have been flowing from the national treasury on a regular schedule to cover the costs.
During a recent parliamentary session, the Minister was quoted saying:
“Over the past few weeks, Treasury has been disbursing funds to ZIMSEC on a fortnightly basis, allowing us to meet our financial obligations to exam markers across the country. These payments will cover all levels of public examinations, including Grade Seven, Ordinary Level (O-Level), and Advanced Level (A-Level). We have a budget in place to cater for all the markers. I am happy to inform the nation that we have the funds to pay them.”
Praise For Teachers Amid Public Skepticism
In his online statement, Minister Moyo extended commendation to the teaching body, framing the payment assurance as a reinforcement of the value placed on education. He emphasised the critical role teachers play beyond the classroom.
The Minister wrote:
“I also wish to commend our teachers for their professionalism and dedication. Their role in the marking process is not merely administrative it is a cornerstone of academic credibility and national progress. By ensuring timely and fair remuneration, we are not only honoring their service but also reinforcing the value of education in Zimbabwe’s development agenda.”
However, the announcement was met with a wave of critical responses from the public on the social media platform. Many users questioned why the payment of exam markers needed to be announced as an achievement, arguing that it is a basic government obligation.
One user, Mundau weChipinge, responded directly to the Minister, questioning the necessity of the announcement itself. They wrote:
“Do you have to announce that here minister? Is it an achievement to secure money to pay exam markers? This should be written when you fail to pay exam markers citing reasons why you haven’t payed them , paying them is your obligation that doesn’t need twittering .”
Another user, Lk244, expressed a similar sentiment, stating:
“Isn’t supposed to be a normal ting that they get paid must we really applaud this bd”
A Commitment To The “Heartbeat Of The Nation”
Concluding his statement, the Minister positioned the move as a core investment in the country’s future, directly linking the treatment of teachers to national progress.
He stated:
“Let me reiterate Education is the heartbeat of our nation. When we invest in our teachers, we invest in our future.”
The announcement comes as the Grade Seven examinations were completed earlier in October 2025, with O-Level and A-Level exams soon to commence. The government’s assurance seeks to ensure the smooth running of this pivotal period in the academic calendar.
