‘We haven’t forgotten’: Naledi Aphiwe faces viral backlash ahead of Zimbabwe show

South African singer Naledi Aphiwe is expected to perform in Zimbabwe this April. However, social media suggests fans have not forgotten last year’s controversy.

Naledi is billed as a headline act at Ama2k Fest. She will also share the stage with Scotts Maphuma.

The event will take place in Harare. Meanwhile, fans are already discussing her visit online.

Instead of celebrating, many Zimbabweans are posting reminders about past remarks.

TikTok Reply That Sparked Outrage

Last May, a TikTok exchange sparked unexpected tension. A Zimbabwean fan, Constance Muzenda, commented: “Naledi, please come to Zimbabwe.” It was polite and straightforward.

Naledi replied: “Hambani niyongilinda khona,” which loosely translates to, “Go and wait for me there.”

She likely meant it playfully. However, many Zimbabweans felt the comment carried an undertone.

Some interpreted it to mean Zimbabweans in South Africa should return home first. Whether intentional or not, the internet reacted quickly and harshly.

Social media users accused her of being dismissive. Others warned that “the internet never forgets.”

Old Screenshots Resurface Ahead of Harare Performance

Now, news of her Harare performance has revived the controversy.

Old screenshots are circulating again across social media platforms. Comment sections have turned into reminder boards.

Zimbabweans are reposting the exchange and tagging friends. Many say this moment has been long awaited.

Some users insist she should apologise before performing.

“I’m yet to forgive her about what she said about us last year, if possible can you please shower her with cans,” wrote @Liberty Muregi.

“We didn’t forget what she said about Zimbabweans thou,” posted @Nonoe Taa.

“She must apologize first, otherwise we coming for her particularly,” commented @cmk CMax.

“She must bring all Zimbabweans with her when she comes… I remember she said they are in S.A,” added @Morley Mai ve Boys.
