Gayton McKenzie Reacts to Bafana Bafana’s Goalless Draw Against Zimbabwe
South Africa’s Minister of Sports, Arts, and Culture, Gayton McKenzie, has urged fans to stand by Bafana Bafana following their frustrating goalless draw against Zimbabwe.
The match took place on Friday at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban as part of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers Group C.
The stalemate saw South Africa drop crucial points and lose ground to Benin, who went two points clear at the top after a 1–0 victory over Rwanda.

Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) account after the match, McKenzie acknowledged that the team did not perform at their best but maintained faith in their ability to bounce back.
“Truth be told, that was not our best performance for such a crucial game, we have absolutely no choice but to fight harder against Rwanda. I still have hope in @BafanaBafana, let’s rally behind our Boyz on Tuesday, we don’t give up, we rise to the occasion. We shall qualify ,” he posted.

“I wanna thank each and everyone who bought a ticket to come and support @BafanaBafana, we still have a chance to qualify. This is not the time for finger pointing, we shall deal with all that needs to be dealt with on Wednesday. For now, all our focus should be on qualifying,” he wrote.
Investigation Promised After Costly Mistake
McKenzie also hinted at internal issues that will be addressed after the next qualifier, promising transparency and accountability.
“Such a mistake can never be swept under the carpet, a full transparent investigation shall commence on Wednesday. We should make sure something like this never happens again but for now, let’s rally behind our boys fully,” he said.
