Wicknell Chivayo Pledges US$1 Million for Repatriation of Zimbabweans Stranded in South Africa
Businessman Wicknell Chivayo has pledged a US$1 million donation to support Government efforts to repatriate Zimbabweans who are currently stranded in South Africa.
The announcement followed what he described as a courtesy meeting with President Emmerson Mnangagwa after his return from business engagements in Dubai.
According to Chivayo, the donation was made in response to concerns raised over Zimbabwean nationals who have been left stranded, including groups reportedly camped outside the Zimbabwean Embassy in South Africa.

Funds Directed Toward Emergency Repatriation Efforts
Chivayo said he had been instructed to assist with the urgent mobilisation of funds to support the return of affected citizens.
He indicated that the money would be channelled through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade to support ongoing repatriation operations.
The businessman further stated that efforts were being made to ensure the pledged funds would be available within 24 hours, including engaging associates and financial institutions to raise the amount.
Appeal for National Support and Unity
In his remarks, Chivayo called on the broader business community to support Government initiatives aimed at assisting Zimbabweans in distress abroad.
He emphasised the importance of collective responsibility in responding to national challenges, particularly where public resources are constrained.
He also echoed sentiments encouraging affected citizens to return home and contribute to national development.
Government Repatriation Efforts Under Spotlight
The pledge comes as Government continues efforts to assist Zimbabweans facing difficulties in neighbouring countries.
Authorities have repeatedly emphasised voluntary return and reintegration as part of broader national development goals under Vision 2030.
Chivayo said the initiative reflects a shared responsibility between Government and the private sector to ensure the welfare and dignity of citizens abroad is protected.
