Wicknell Chivayo Estate: Latest Update As Sister And Ex-Wife Prepare For Formal Appointment

Wicknell Chivayo’s Sister And Ex-Wife To Take Joint Control Of His Estate As Major Decision Looms

Wicknell Chivayo’s sister, Esther Chivayo, and his former wife, Sonja Madzikanda, are expected to be formally appointed co-executors of his estate on Monday, November 9, 2026. The development follows an agreement between the two women on how they will jointly manage the late businessman’s assets, business interests and outstanding legal matters.

The appointment is expected to introduce safeguards around the administration of the estate, particularly concerning the financial interests of Chivayo’s two minor children.

Esther Chivayo And Sonja Madzikanda Reach Agreement Over Estate

According to The Herald, the Master of the High Court is expected to issue letters of administration to the two women following an edict meeting held on Friday, November 6.

Their agreement, signed in Harare on November 3, provides for joint administration, transparency and full disclosure of the deceased businessman’s assets and liabilities.

Madzikanda and Esther will also have to disclose company shareholdings, investments, trusts and other business interests.

The agreement establishes arrangements for handling potential conflicts of interest, preventing either woman from exercising unilateral control over estate affairs.

Wicknell Chivayo’s Children’s Money Protected

One significant provision concerns the two children, John Chenjera Chivayo and Atarah Minana Chivayo.

Their existing bank accounts at CBZ Bank’s Borrowdale branch are recognised as their personal property and are excluded from their father’s estate.

The arrangement preserves an existing High Court order granted by Justice Amy Tsanga on April 2, 2026. Esther is specifically prohibited from issuing instructions concerning the accounts.

The agreement also requires significant estate transactions to be documented and made accessible to both co-executors.

US$25 Million Court Dispute Could Resume

The appointment could also pave the way for outstanding litigation involving the late businessman.

Among the cases is a US$25 million (approximately R412.9 million) matrimonial property and asset division dispute involving Madzikanda. The matter was awaiting determination by the Supreme Court when Chivayo died.

The proceedings were subsequently removed from the court roll pending the appointment of an executor who could represent his estate.

Chivayo died alongside his wife, Lucy Muteke, and three other people in a helicopter crash near Marondera on September 30, 2026.

The formal appointment of the co-executors is expected to enable the estate’s administration and provide a legal representative for outstanding matters. However, its actual value has not yet been officially established.
