Helicopter Believed To Be Carrying Wicknell Chivayo Goes Down Near Marondera
A helicopter believed to be carrying businessman Wicknell Chivayo reportedly went down near Marondera on Wednesday evening, 30 September 2026, as emergency teams rushed to the area.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirmed that an aircraft had crashed in the Marondera Rural area at around 5pm, with six people reportedly on board.
Police Confirm Marondera Aircraft Crash
The police said officers and emergency personnel were attending the crash site, while further details were expected to follow.
“The ZRP confirms a plane crash in Marondera Rural area at 1700 hours, this evening. The aircraft had 6 occupants. More details will be released in due course as the scene is currently being attended.”
The police statement did not identify the aircraft or any of the six occupants.
Wicknell Chivayo Reportedly On Board
ZimLive reported on X that a helicopter believed to be carrying Chivayo had gone down near Marondera. The publication also reported that more than six ambulances were seen travelling towards Marondera from Harare.
“His condition is unknown at this time,” ZimLive reported.
At the time of publication, police had not officially confirmed that Chivayo was among the occupants.
The crash remains under investigation, with authorities expected to release more information as emergency teams work at the scene.
