Wicknell Chivayo’s ex-wife, Sonja Madzikanda, has been appointed to help administer his estate following the businessman’s death in a helicopter crash in September.
Madzikanda will serve as co-executrix alongside Chivayo’s sister, Esther Chivayo, placing the two women in charge of overseeing the administration of an estate believed to be worth millions of dollars.
Her appointment comes against the backdrop of a US$25 million matrimonial claim she had pending before the Supreme Court at the time of Chivayo’s death.
Madzikanda Gets Role In Administration Of Chivayo’s Estate
The appointment gives Madzikanda a formal role in handling Chivayo’s affairs following his death.
Working jointly, she and Esther Chivayo are expected to oversee the identification and valuation of assets, establish outstanding liabilities and ensure that debts are settled before the estate is distributed to the rightful beneficiaries.
The process could involve dealing with Chivayo’s various financial interests and properties as the executrices work through the estate administration.
US$25 Million Matrimonial Claim Adds Another Dimension
Madzikanda’s appointment is particularly significant given her ongoing legal battle over a US$25 million matrimonial claim against the late businessman.
The matter was still before the Supreme Court when Chivayo died, meaning the claim was unresolved at the time of his death.
Her new position as co-executrix places her in a joint administrative role over the same estate against which her matrimonial claim was pending.
However, her appointment does not in itself determine the outcome of the US$25 million claim.
Chivayo Died In Helicopter Crash
Chivayo died on 30 September 2026 when a helicopter crashed in Marondera.
His wife, Lucy Muteke, and three other people also died in the accident.
His death left behind an estate believed to be worth millions of dollars, with its administration now falling to Madzikanda and Esther Chivayo.
The two co-executrices will be responsible for overseeing the process of establishing the estate’s assets and liabilities before any eventual distribution takes place.
