Former Zimbabwe captain Willard Katsande has revealed why he ended his short spell with Grand Legacy. He says major disagreements over the club’s vision forced him to leave.
The Eastern Region Division One side confirmed his departure last week. His exit came only months after taking charge of the Murehwa-based club.
Speaking to Soccer Laduma, Katsande explained that he became frustrated with the club’s direction. Moreover, he claimed certain members of the technical team created unnecessary problems.
“The club direction wasn’t good,” he said.
“I had a mole in the technical staff who would take petty things to the club President,” he added.
Katsande criticises recruitment and decision-making
Katsande also questioned the club’s decision-making process. He believes management limited his authority despite appointing him as head coach.
According to the former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder, the club ignored several of his recommendations. As a result, he felt unable to shape the team as he intended.
“I said, ‘Can we at least change the bench?’ and they didn’t want to. Also, player recruitment wasn’t done well; he wanted to handle all those things alone, with no recommendation from me,” Katsande continued.
Meanwhile, Grand Legacy have already moved to replace the Zimbabwean football legend. The club has appointed Paul Chimalizeni as its new head coach.
