The World Bank is seeking a qualified and motivated Finance Associate to join its Harare, Zimbabwe office. This is a local recruitment position under a 3-year term, offering an exciting opportunity to contribute to global development by supporting financial management and operational efficiency within the World Bank’s Budget, Performance Review, and Strategic Planning Vice Presidency (BPS).

Position Overview
The Finance Associate will report to BPSAF, which supports both the Eastern and Southern Africa Region and the Western and Central African Region. The role involves accounting, financial reporting, internal controls, policy implementation, and support to regional country offices. The incumbent may also extend support to other countries within the Country Management Unit (CMU).
Key Responsibilities

Assist in preparing, analyzing, and managing budgets for the office and assigned regional operations.

Monitor expenditures and report variances against budget plans to support strategic financial decisions.

Ensure compliance with internal financial policies, procedures, and international accounting standards.

Coordinate with departments to compile financial data, assist in forecasting, and identify cost-saving opportunities.

Support VAT claims processing, fixed asset tracking, vendor management, and procurement controls.

Use financial systems (e.g., SAP, BW/AO) for reconciliation, reporting, and analytics.

Participate in periodic audits and ensure adherence to risk management protocols.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams for efficient service delivery.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Management, or related field.
Alternatively, a non-finance degree with one of the following certifications:-
CIMA Advanced Diploma in Management Accounting

ACCA Advanced Diploma in Accounting and Business

Equivalent accounting qualification

Experience: At least 1 year in a finance or accounting role.

Technical Skills:
-
Solid knowledge of financial reporting and budget monitoring.

Proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and finance platforms such as SAP or BW/AO.

Knowledge in internal control frameworks, bank reconciliations, procurement, and fixed assets.

Language: Fluency in English (written and oral) is required.

Competencies: Strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, analytical thinking, and ability to work collaboratively in diverse teams.
