ZIFA Appoints Ramon Catala as New Warriors Head Coach

The Zimbabwe Football Association has ended its search for a permanent Warriors coach by appointing Spaniard Ramon Catala to take charge of the senior men’s national team.

Catala replaces Kaitano Tembo, who had been guiding the Warriors on an interim basis.

ZIFA also announced a new-look technical structure, with CAPS United coach Takesure Chiragwi joining Catala as an assistant.

Spanish Pair Join Warriors Setup

Catala will work alongside fellow Spaniard Marc Sanchez, who has been handed responsibility for Zimbabwe’s Under-23 side.

Sanchez will also serve as Catala’s first assistant within the senior national team setup.

The Warriors technical team is now made up of Catala as head coach, Sanchez as first assistant and Under-23 coach, and Chiragwi as assistant coach.

The appointments bring fresh faces into the national team setup as ZIFA seeks to strengthen its technical structures across the various age groups.

Tembo Moves to Under-20s

Tembo’s departure from the senior team does not mark the end of his involvement with the national setup.

The former interim Warriors coach has been moved to the Zimbabwe Under-20 team.

ZIFA has also appointed Wilson Mutekede as assistant coach of the Under-23 side.

Mutekede currently serves as MWOS technical director and previously held positions within ZIFA.

More Changes Across Junior Teams

The coaching reshuffle extends beyond the senior and Under-23 teams.

Former Warriors player George Mbwando has been appointed assistant coach of the Under-17 side.

Alexio Sigion has also been given a role with the Under-15 team.

Sigion has previously worked with Nsingizini Hotspurs, Ngezi Platinum’s Under-19 side, CAPS United and FC Platinum as an assistant coach.

The appointments form part of a wider restructuring of Zimbabwe’s national-team coaching departments.

Catala Takes Over After Marinica Exit

Catala’s arrival follows the departure of Marian Marinica earlier this year.

His appointment finally gives the Warriors a substantive head coach after the team was placed under Tembo’s temporary guidance.

ZIFA welcomed the new coaching staff following the announcement, expressing optimism about the direction they will take the national teams.

The association’s focus will now shift to preparing the Warriors for their upcoming international commitments under their new Spanish-led technical setup.
