Zimbabwe Police Release Names of Six Family Members Killed in Deadly Harare–Masvingo Road Accident
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed the identities of six people who lost their lives in a devastating road accident along the Harare–Masvingo Highway on Thursday morning.
The fatal collision occurred at approximately 9:50am at the 246-kilometre peg, near Masvingo, involving a Toyota Corolla and a Mercedes-Benz truck.

Victims Identified
According to police spokesperson Paul Nyathi, the deceased have been positively identified by their next of kin.
The victims are:
- Lilian Maranda-Mujuru (40)
- Nokutenda Mujuru (15)
- Makanaka Mujuru (13)
- Ronald Junior Mujuru (11)
- Rufaro Shalom Mujuru (7)
- Kayden Mujuru (3)
All were from Tynwald North in Harare.
Police Extend Condolences
Police have expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss of life, describing the incident as heartbreaking.
Commissioner Nyathi conveyed condolences to the bereaved family and urged motorists to exercise extreme caution, especially during the busy holiday period.
Authorities Dismiss Social Media Claims
Meanwhile, the ZRP has dismissed circulating social media claims suggesting that the accident was linked to operations by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) and police.
Nyathi said there was no evidence supporting such allegations and urged the public to disregard the misinformation.
ZACC Distances Itself
ZACC Commissioner Kindness Paradza also clarified that the commission was not conducting any roadblock operations at the time of the accident.
He expressed concern over misleading content circulating online and reiterated that no ZACC officers were deployed at roadblocks across the country.
Renewed Calls for Road Safety
Authorities have once again appealed to motorists to remain vigilant on the roads, noting that accidents tend to rise during holiday periods such as Easter and Independence celebrations.
The tragedy adds to growing concerns over road safety on Zimbabwe’s highways, particularly during peak travel times.
