Zimbabwe to Introduce AI Lessons at ECD Level as Government Pushes Digital Transformation
Zimbabwe is preparing to roll out Artificial Intelligence (AI) lessons at Early Childhood Development (ECD) level, marking one of the country’s most ambitious steps yet toward building a digitally empowered generation.
The development was announced by Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services Minister Tatenda Mavetera during a send-off ceremony for 17 girls selected to represent the nation at the World Robotics Olympiad in Singapore.

AI to Be Taught From ECD A and B
Minister Mavetera revealed that her ministry is working hand-in-hand with the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education to integrate AI into the curriculum for ECD A and ECD B learners.
“We want to introduce AI in ECD A and ECD B. This means we are now training and equipping our children for the future,” she said.
She emphasised that national development must now be anchored on science, technology, robotics and AI — a stance she noted aligns with President Mnangagwa’s push for innovation-driven growth.
Girls Set for World Robotics Olympiad
The ceremony, held for learners selected through Girls in STEM Trust initiatives, showcased Zimbabwe’s increasing investment in robotics and digital education.
Mavetera urged the young team to carry the country’s flag with pride.
“When you are given an opportunity to go and shine and represent the country, that’s a great opportunity. Well done and congratulations. This is your moment to learn and to bring the prize back home,” she said.
One of the participants, Nicole Maruni, said the group was eager to make Zimbabwe proud.
“We are grateful for the opportunity to represent the country and promise to bring the prizes back home,” she said.
Government Expanding Digital Access in Schools
The Minister also highlighted ongoing efforts to ensure every school has internet connectivity and at least 10 computers — a move aimed at bridging the digital divide and enabling learners to participate meaningfully in the global digital economy.
