The Zimbabwe Warriors have departed for Morocco ahead of their opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
Zimbabwe face Sierra Leone on September 24 in their first Group E match.
Coach Ramon Katala believes his side can overcome their limited preparation and start the campaign strongly.
The Warriors left Harare on Sunday as preparations continued for the crucial qualifying fixture.
Katala spoke confidently about his squad before the team departed from Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport.
Katala confident despite limited preparation
The Warriors have had little time to work together before their opening qualifier.
However, Katala remains convinced that his players can deliver a positive result.
“We are happy with the team. We have short time to train together as a team, we have this local players who good to go and international based we will join them to train in the next few days, but above all I am confident the team pick up the first three points,” Warriors coach Ramon Katala said.
Seven locally based players form part of the travelling squad.
Scottland has supplied Nelson Chadya, Emmanuel Jalai, Kelvin Moyo, Moffat Abubakkar and Peter Muduwa.
Meanwhile, Prince Dube and Martin Mapisa represent Hardrock in the squad.
Warriors face DRC after Sierra Leone clash
Most of the squad consists of players currently based outside Zimbabwe.
Captain Marvellous Nakamba is among the overseas-based players expected to join the team in Morocco.
Zimbabwe were drawn alongside the DRC, Equatorial Guinea and Sierra Leone in Group E.
Therefore, the Warriors face an important opening test against Sierra Leone.
They will then return home to host the Democratic Republic of Congo on September 28.
The fixture will give Zimbabwean supporters another chance to watch their national team at home.
The Warriors will now focus on making a strong start to their qualification campaign.
A victory in Morocco would provide Katala’s side with valuable momentum heading into the DRC clash.
