Zimbabwe Weather Alert: 3 Days Of Very Hot Conditions Expected Across The Country

MSD Issues Nationwide Heat Warning As Zimbabwe Temperatures Set To Soar

Zimbabwe is set to experience very hot weather from Sunday, 18 October, to Tuesday, 20 October 2026, with afternoon temperatures expected to climb significantly. The warning covers the country, with low-lying areas such as the Zambezi and Save Valleys facing particularly hot conditions.

The Meteorological Services Department (MSD) issued the advisory on Saturday, 17 October, urging the public, farmers and livestock owners to take precautions against the heat.

MSD Warns Zimbabweans About Extreme Heat

The MSD attributed the expected conditions to reduced cloud cover and longer periods of sunshine. The heat could cause dehydration and excessive sweating in people, while crops, livestock and pets may also experience heat stress.

The department said:

“Beginning tomorrow, Sunday, 18 October through Tuesday, 20 October 2026, very hot weather conditions are expected to prevail across much of the country under sunny skies.”

The warning comes as the country moves through October, when rising daytime temperatures can pose challenges for people working outdoors and farmers managing crops and animals.

Safety Advice For Zimbabweans And Farmers

The MSD, working with the Department of Civil Protection, advised people to drink adequate water, wear sunhats and sunglasses, use umbrellas and avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.

Members of the public were also urged to limit strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day and remain indoors where possible.

Farmers should monitor crops for signs of heat stress and water or irrigate them in consultation with local Agritex and Ardas officers. Livestock and pets should have sufficient drinking water and protection from excessive heat.

With the advisory covering 18 to 20 October, Zimbabweans are encouraged to take precautions throughout the three-day period, particularly during the afternoon when temperatures are expected to peak.
