Zimbabwean AmaZulu Star Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya Receives Death Threats After Sihle Nduli Injury

Zimbabwean AmaZulu Star Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya Targeted With Death Threats After Sihle Nduli Injury

Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya has reportedly become the target of death threats following an incident that left Orlando Pirates midfielder Sihle Nduli injured.

The AmaZulu forward was involved in a late challenge on Nduli during Wednesday night’s 1-1 Betway Premiership draw at Kings Park.

Ngwenya Targeted On Social Media

A source close to the 23-year-old claims he has faced a wave of abusive and threatening messages online since the match.

The source said Ngwenya did not intend to hurt the Pirates midfielder during the challenge.

Ngwenya has been receiving death threats on social media after the incident. But he had no intentions against Nduli,” the source said.

The incident happened shortly after half-time when Ngwenya caught Nduli around the ankle with a late challenge.

The referee issued the AmaZulu striker with a yellow card.

Nduli received medical attention before being substituted just 10 minutes into the second half.

Nduli Injured On His Return

The injury came at a particularly unfortunate time for Nduli, who was making his first start of the new season.

The Pirates midfielder had only recently returned from an Achilles tendon injury.

He suffered that injury in November last year and had been working his way back to full fitness.

His latest setback has therefore raised concerns over another potentially lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Zwane Admits Challenge Could Have Been Better

AmaZulu coach Arthur Zwane acknowledged that Ngwenya could have approached the challenge differently.

However, he also expressed sympathy for Nduli and wished him well in his recovery.

Zwane said it was difficult to see a player return from a serious injury only to suffer another setback.

He also described Nduli as a talented player and expressed hope that he makes a quick recovery.

Ngwenya Had Earlier Levelled The Match

The controversy came despite Ngwenya making an important contribution for AmaZulu earlier in the match.

He stepped up to take AmaZulu’s penalty during first-half stoppage time.

The forward converted from the spot to bring his side level after Tshepang Moremi had given Orlando Pirates the lead in the seventh minute.

The match eventually ended 1-1, but the attention after the final whistle shifted heavily towards the challenge involving Ngwenya and Nduli.

The reported threats against Ngwenya have added another layer to the controversy surrounding the incident.
