Zimbabwean man killed in Limpopo after cable theft allegation

Limpopo police have opened a murder investigation after a Zimbabwean national died. He reportedly suffered injuries during an alleged mob assault.

The incident happened on Tuesday in Lefara Village. The village falls under the Maake policing area. Residents accused the man of stealing electric cables. They then allegedly attacked him.

Officers find Zimbabwean national badly injured

According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), officers responded to mob attack reports. They arrived and found residents surrounding an injured man. He lay on the ground and looked badly hurt. Paramedics arrived quickly and took him to hospital.

Police spoke to him before the ambulance left. He said he was a Zimbabwean national from Bridgeway Village. Initial reports said residents confronted him about cable theft. They then allegedly assaulted him.

Police confirm death later that evening

Emergency Medical Services later confirmed the man had died. He reportedly died from injuries linked to the attack. Police continued gathering statements and evidence. Investigators are still working to identify suspects.

Police warn communities against mob justice

Limpopo commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe condemned the incident. She warned residents not to take the law into their hands. Police stressed that mob justice is a serious criminal offence. They said it often causes tragic outcomes. Authorities urged communities to report crime instead of using violence. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
