Dagga Plants Found Growing Alongside Maize
According to the police, officers discovered 770 dagga plants being cultivated alongside maize crops at the village.
Processed dagga was also recovered during the operation, leading to the arrest of the two men on allegations of unlawful cultivation.
The discovery highlights how the illegal crop was being grown alongside a food crop in the same field.
Zimbabweans React To The Arrests
Some Zimbabweans have called for the legalisation and commercialisation of dagga following the arrest of two men in Chimanimani for allegedly cultivating the plant. They argued that farmers should be allowed to grow it legally and earn a living from the crop, while others questioned its classification as a dangerous drug.
Some also called for the suspects to be released, describing dagga cultivation as farming and arguing that the country should consider changing its approach to the plant. Concerns were also raised about the cost of obtaining a cultivation licence, with some suggesting that the current requirements make legal dagga farming difficult for ordinary farmers.
Here are some of the comments;
@Tafadzwa Maziwisa;
Dont lockup our farmers , give them a license to grow legally.

Release them what’s the point of locking up people when it’s their right to survive after we have faced so much in history we still haven’t learned what is important.
