Bulawayo Man Assaulted Over Chicken And Chips
The alleged robbery occurred on 28 October 2025 at approximately 10.50pm at the intersection of Fort Street and 4th Avenue in Bulawayo’s city centre.
Prosecutor Tumelo Hindoga told the court that the two accused allegedly approached Casper Zongeni, an unemployed Bulawayo man, before attacking him.
The pair allegedly slapped Zongeni several times across the face before forcibly taking his two pieces of chicken and chips.
“Accused persons acting in common purpose met the complainant, assaulted him with open hands several times on his face and forcibly took his two pieces of chicken and chips,” Hindoga told the court.
After taking the food, the two allegedly fled from the scene, leaving Zongeni to report the incident to the police.
Suspects Remanded In Custody
The accused were subsequently arrested and taken to Bulawayo Central Police Station.
The stolen food was valued at US$4 but was not recovered. Although Zongeni did not sustain serious injuries, the court heard that he was left shaken by the alleged attack.
Magistrate Chitumwa told the two accused that they could approach the High Court if they wished to apply for bail, highlighting the seriousness of the robbery charge.

The incident has sparked a wave of reactions on social media, with Zimbabweans expressing disbelief and amusement over the alleged robbery. While some jokingly suggested that the two men might have been driven by hunger, others proposed humorous punishments, including making them eat a truckload of chicken and chips or perform community service by cleaning at a KFC outlet for three months. Some users, however, felt the matter was serious enough to warrant a lengthy prison sentence.
