ZIMRA Intercepts Fuel Tanker Carrying More Than 1,000 Boxes Of Cigarettes
The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) has intercepted a fuel tanker being used to conceal more than 1,000 boxes of cigarettes in a case that could have resulted in approximately US$44,000 in lost government revenue.
The tanker and the cigarettes have been detained as investigations into the suspected smuggling operation continue.

Cigarettes concealed in fuel tanker
ZIMRA officers intercepted the tanker during an operation aimed at curbing the illegal movement of goods.
More than 1,000 boxes of cigarettes were discovered concealed inside the fuel tanker, according to the revenue authority.
The estimated potential revenue prejudice from the consignment is approximately US$44,000.
Both the vehicle and the cigarette shipment remain in ZIMRA custody pending further investigations and any enforcement action that may follow.
ZIMRA warns against smuggling
The revenue authority warned that smuggling has wider economic consequences beyond the immediate loss of tax revenue.
According to ZIMRA, illegal trade deprives the country of revenue, while also putting businesses that comply with tax and customs requirements at a disadvantage.
The authority urged members of the public, traders and transporters to reject involvement in smuggling activities and report suspected cases to the relevant authorities.
ZIMRA said public cooperation was important in protecting national revenue and ensuring that businesses operating within the law are not disadvantaged by illicit trade.
