Murdered ZRP Cop Shot By Husband Yet To Be Buried 8 Days Later As Family Demands Compensation
Sergeant Portia Dzanwa, a Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) traffic officer allegedly shot dead by her husband, has still not been buried 8 days after her death, with her family reportedly demanding compensation and answers before she can be laid to rest.
Dzanwa, 36, was allegedly shot inside a parked car in Southley Park on 16 August 2026. Her husband, former Police Special Constabulary member Pharaoh Dombodzvuku, 52, allegedly turned the firearm on himself after the shooting and was injured.
Family Demands Compensation For Burial
A close relative told H-Metro on 24 August 2026 that the family remained in pain over Dzanwa’s death and had yet to reach an agreement over her burial.
The relative said:
“We are still in pain, Sergeant Dzanwa is yet to be buried. In-laws are demanding money, hanzi tinoda mhere (we want compensation).”
The family member claimed that 3 cattle and US$500 (approximately R8,250) had been offered, but said the matter remained unresolved.
The Rand conversion uses the current rate of approximately US$1 = R16.50.
Police Probe Into Husband’s Alleged Shooting
Police investigations reportedly indicate that Dombodzvuku allegedly sexually abused Dzanwa’s 16-year-old daughter, who later disclosed the allegations to her mother.
The couple reportedly went to Dombodzvuku’s brother, Trymore, for counselling.
Police said Dombodzvuku later requested privacy with Dzanwa. Trymore allegedly heard 2 gunshots and rushed to the vehicle, where he found Dzanwa dead and Dombodzvuku unconscious.
Dombodzvuku was admitted to Sally Mugabe Central Hospital and remains under police guard.
The case remains under investigation.
