The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has released the official photographs of armed robbery suspect Daniel Munyanyi, the man who is accused of executing two CID Homicide detectives in cold blood and injuring three others during a dramatic shootout at his rural home in Zaka on Sunday.

In a statement on Monday, the police force confirmed that they are now turning to the public for assistance in tracking down the 50-year-old fugitive after the deadly confrontation left the law enforcement community in mourning.

The nation is reeling from the brutal attack on the police detail, who were carrying out their duties in the early hours of 01 March 2026. According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police, the suspect, who is believed to be involved in a series of violent armed robberies in Harare and Masvingo provinces, is considered armed and extremely dangerous.

Police Release Wanted Suspect’s Mugshots

In an effort to intensify the manhunt, the police have circulated images of Daniel Munyanyi, urging any member of the public who might have seen him to come forward immediately.

“Reference is made to the ZRP’s statement dated 01st March 2026 in connection with the murder of two police officers in Zaka on 01st March 2026. The ZRP officially releases the photos of the wanted person, Daniel Munyanyi (50). Anyone with information on his location should feel free to notify the Police,” the Zimbabwe Republic Police posted on X.

The authorities have provided direct channels for the public to report tips, including the ZRP WhatsApp number 0712 800 197 and the National Complaints Desk on (0242) 703 631. Citizens are advised not to approach the suspect but to contact the nearest police station immediately.

Officers Were Tracking Armed Robbery Suspect

The tragic incident occurred at approximately 5 AM on Sunday at Ndume Village, under Chief Ndanga in Zaka. A team of detectives from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Homicide Division in Harare had cornered Munyanyi at his rural home, believing he was linked to a wave of armed robberies.

It was at this point that the situation turned into a bloodbath. National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi detailed the events, confirming the identities of the fallen heroes.

“The slain officers have been identified as Detective Sergeant Bernard Chimbeke, 37, and Detective Constable Casper Antonio McKenzie Chitsowe, 43, both attached to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Homicide Division in Harare,” said Commissioner Nyathi.

According to law enforcement sources, the suspect allegedly opened fire on the detectives without warning, fatally wounding the two officers. In the chaos that followed, three other detectives sustained serious gunshot wounds.

Sources revealed the extent of their injuries, stating one officer was shot in the thigh, another in both legs, while a third suffered such severe injuries that medics were forced to amputate one leg.

The ZRP has assured the nation that investigations are ongoing and that all resources are being deployed to ensure the suspect is brought to justice. The police have not ruled out the possibility that Munyanyi may be receiving shelter from sympathisers or relatives, which is why they have appealed to the public for information.

The reward for information leading to his arrest has not been disclosed, but police sources suggest it is a significant amount.
