Two Dead In Head-On Collision As Alois Bunjira’s Car Involved In Crash
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed a fatal accident involving former Warriors star Alois Bunjira. The tragic crash happened along the Rusape-Nyanga Road on Saturday 16 August 2025. Two people died while three others were injured.
Crash happened during overtaking attempt
In a statement posted on its official X account, the ZRP explained what led to the accident.
“The ZRP confirms a fatal road traffic accident which occurred at the 8 km peg along Rusape-Nyanga Road today (16/08/25) at around 1000 hours. Two people died, while three others were injured, after an Isuzu pickup truck, which had three passengers on board, tried to overtake a bus while there was an oncoming BMW vehicle,” the police said.
The statement went on to reveal that the BMW was being driven by former national team forward Alois Bunjira, who had one passenger in his vehicle.
“The BMW vehicle was being driven by Alouis Bunjira with one passenger on board. The vehicles collided head-on, resulting in the death of two passengers from the Isuzu vehicle,” read the ZRP statement.
Victims taken to Rusape General Hospital
Police confirmed that emergency services rushed to the scene.
“The bodies of the victims were taken to Rusape General Hospital mortuary for post-mortem, while the injured are admitted at the same institution,” the statement added.
The names of the deceased and injured have not yet been released. Authorities say investigations into the crash are still underway.
Shock and concern after accident
News of the crash quickly spread, with football fans and members of the public expressing concern for Bunjira and sadness over the loss of life. Many took to social media to share condolences for the families of the victims.
Bunjira, who played for CAPS United and the Zimbabwe national team, has not yet commented publicly on the accident.
Police urged drivers to exercise caution on the country’s highways.
“Motorists are reminded to avoid overtaking in situations that endanger the lives of other road users. Investigations into the accident are in progress,” the police said.
