ZRP Names Three Highly Wanted Drug Lords Linked To Explosives And Armed Robberies
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has launched a public appeal for information that could lead to the arrest of three alleged drug lords accused of running syndicate drug bases in Harare’s high-density suburbs while using fortified homes, CCTV systems and vicious dogs to evade police raids.
In a press statement dated 10 May 2026, police named the suspects as Nomore “Nomara” Chabata (47), Joymore Chihwai (41) and Leon Mambohaatumwi (35). Authorities say the men were allegedly operating from Mufakose, Marimba and Mabvuku.
According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), investigations also uncovered explosives, with police linking the suspects to armed robberies involving the blowing up of safes.
Police Reveal Fortified Drug Bases
In the statement issued by Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the ZRP said the suspects allegedly turned their premises into heavily protected compounds to avoid arrest.
Commissioner Nyathi said:
“Initial police investigations have revealed that the drug lords were operating at houses with very high durawalls for concealment, electric fences and CCTV cameras for surveillance and evading of arrests and raids by the Police.”
Police also claimed the homes were guarded by aggressive dogs.
Commissioner Nyathi added:
“The premises had vicious dogs such as pit-bulls and others to scare away law enforcement efforts.”
The statement did not indicate when the suspects allegedly went on the run or whether any arrests had already been made in connection with the case.
Explosives Recovered During Investigations
The ZRP said the recovery of explosives during investigations raised concerns about possible links to organised armed robbery activities.
Commissioner Nyathi said:
“It is disturbing to note that the recovery of explosives in the contraband show that the drug lords are linked to crimes such as armed robbery which involve the blowing up of safes.”
Police did not disclose the type or quantity of explosives allegedly recovered. Authorities also did not state where the explosives were found.
The force said more details would be released later as investigations continue.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police will release detailed information in due course,” reads part of the statement.
Public Asked To Assist Police
The police are now appealing to members of the public who may have information about the suspects’ whereabouts to come forward.
The latest development comes as authorities continue intensifying operations targeting drug syndicates and organised criminal networks in several suburbs across Harare and other cities.
Police did not provide, charge sheets or photographs of the suspects in the statement released on 10 May 2026.
