Court Hands Mhondoro Man 15 Years Over 78-Year-Old Granny Rape
A 33-year-old Mhondoro man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after being convicted of raping a 78-year-old woman at her home in Mubaira. The incident happened on 26 August 2026, with the Chivhu Regional Magistrates’ Court later handing down the prison sentence.
Mhondoro rape case ends in 15-year sentence
The court heard that the man went to the elderly woman’s homestead at Showani Village, under Chief Rwizi, at around 7pm.
He reportedly forced his way into her locked room before attacking her.
The woman screamed for help during the assault. Her cries alerted a passer-by, who came to her assistance as the accused fled.
The matter was subsequently reported to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), leading to the man’s arrest and prosecution.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) confirmed the conviction and sentence.
Another Zimbabwe rape case ends in 30 years
The NPA also confirmed a separate conviction involving Samuel Kubare, 57, from Gondo Village in Honde Valley.
Kubare was sentenced by the Mutare Regional Court to an effective 30 years in prison after being convicted of one count of attempted rape and two counts of rape involving an 11-year-old girl.
The offences occurred in July 2026. The abuse was reported on 14 July after the child told her grandmother what had happened.
The court imposed 10 years for attempted rape and 15 years for each rape conviction, with the sentences structured to leave an effective 30-year term.
