Highlanders FC Fans Express Outrage Over Appointment of Benjani Mwaruwari as Head Coach

Highlanders FC have sparked widespread outrage after reportedly appointing former Warriors captain and ex-Manchester City striker Benjani Mwaruwari as head coach.

This comes barely a week after the club unveiled South African tactician Thabo Senong as coach.

The sudden development has stunned supporters and football observers, with many questioning the club’s decision-making at a critical stage of preparations for the new season.

Senong Deal Reportedly Set for Termination

Sources indicate that the Bulawayo giants are now considering paying off Senong, despite his recent appointment. The move is said to have been influenced by financial considerations following high-level discussions involving the club’s leadership and key stakeholders.

According to insiders, Highlanders chairman Kenneth Mhlophe and his deputy Fiso Siziba travelled to Harare on Tuesday for talks with businessman and benefactor Wicknell Chivayo, where the dramatic shift in direction was finalised.

Benjani Takes Charge Amid Financial Standoff

A source close to the developments revealed that Mwaruwari has already signed a contract and is set to assume control of the dressing room.

“Benjie is the new Highlanders dressing room sheriff. He has signed the contract and from the looks of it, the club may pay off Senong. Chivayo made it clear that Bosso may go ahead with the Senong deal, but he won’t release a single dime,” the source said.

The standoff reportedly forced the club to reconsider its coaching structure in order to secure continued financial backing.

Chivayo Pledges Support for Pre-Season and Signings

Another source disclosed that Chivayo pledged to bankroll Highlanders’ pre-season training camp and committed an undisclosed amount to strengthen the squad with quality players, aimed at restoring the club’s competitiveness in the title race.

While the promised financial boost has been welcomed, the manner in which the coaching change has unfolded has drawn sharp criticism from fans and followers, many of whom accuse the club of instability and poor governance.
