Work Permit Issues Stall Coaching Duties
Senong, who signed a two-year contract with Highlanders late last year, may be paid one month’s salary, depending on the outcome of his work permit application. A source close to the matter said the payment is contingent on the permit, which is still pending.
“The club may pay Thabo Senong one month’s salary, but that will depend on whether his work permit is approved, which is still pending,” the source said.
Technical Team Restructured
Highlanders FC restructured their technical staff. Benjani Mwaruwari, originally appointed as technical director, was elevated to head coach, while Senong was offered the position of assistant coach — an arrangement he reportedly did not accept.
Club Confirms Ongoing Discussions
Highlanders’ Chief Executive Officer, Mnkandla, confirmed that negotiations are underway to reach a fair resolution.
“A settlement is being negotiated with Coach Thabo, who, unfortunately, could not take up his duties at the club. Further role explorations also took place, although an agreement could not be reached in that regard. We hope this process will bring finality to this chapter and keep the door open for future collaboration,” he said, adding that the club could not comment further on specific details.
