20-Year-Old Man Jailed Three Years Over Fatal Nemakonde Road Crash
A 20-year-old Harare motorist has been sentenced to an effective three years in prison after being convicted of culpable homicide.
The conviction stems from a fatal road traffic accident that claimed the life of an eight-year-old child.
The sentence was handed down by the Harare Magistrates’ Court, according to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ).

Crash Near Westgate Roundabout
The court heard that on July 4, 2025, at approximately 1:45 pm, Tadiwa Muswere was driving along Nemakonde Road near the Westgate roundabout when he lost control of his vehicle.
Prosecutors said Muswere had been travelling at excessive speed before veering off and colliding with a Toyota Quantum carrying 10 passengers.
An eight-year-old passenger sustained serious injuries in the crash and later succumbed to them.
Court Finds Driver Negligent
In its ruling, the court determined that Muswere had acted negligently by speeding, failing to maintain a proper lookout and failing to keep control of his vehicle.
He was initially sentenced to five years’ imprisonment, with two years suspended on condition of good behaviour, leaving him to serve an effective three-year jail term.
In addition, his driver’s licence was cancelled, and he was barred from driving for two years.
Warning to Motorists
In a statement, the NPAZ said the conviction sends a strong message that negligent driving will not be tolerated.
The authority reminded motorists that they have a responsibility to safeguard the lives of other road users and warned that reckless behaviour behind the wheel carries serious legal consequences.
“This conviction is a reminder that negligent driving will not be tolerated by the criminal justice system. Drivers are reminded that they have a duty to safeguard other road users,” the NPAZ warned.
