‘This Song Has Enslaved Me’: Poptain Explains Why He Removed His Hit Song ‘Fadza Mutengi’ From YouTube

Zimbabwean musician Poptain has removed his popular track Fadza Mutengi from his YouTube channel, saying he no longer wishes to be associated with the message behind the song.

The artist announced the decision in a heartfelt statement shared on his Facebook page, where he explained that his perspective has evolved since the song’s release.

‘I Am Detaching Myself’- Poptain

In his message addressed to fans, Poptain acknowledged the emotional investment he put into creating the track but said he now feels the need to distance himself from it.

While I poured a lot of emotion by going against my being into the creation of this track, I want to clarify that I am currently detaching myself from the specific message it conveys,” he wrote.

He encouraged listeners to interpret the song in their own way rather than strictly through his original intention.

As an artist, my perspective often evolves, and I want to encourage you to find your own personal meaning in the music rather than viewing it solely through the lens of my original intent. Let ye with an ear hear.”

‘The Song Has Enslaved Me’-Poptain

In perhaps the most striking part of his statement, Poptain revealed that the song had weighed heavily on him.

He added that he was removing himself “from both its creation and benefits if any with immediate effect,” signalling a complete break from the track despite its popularity.

Thank you for your continued support and for being part of this journey with me so far but as of Today I Poptain am freeing myself by detaching from Fadza Mutengi. I am removing myself from both it’s creation and benefits if any with immediate effect. Family you probably have no idea how this song has enslaved me but thanks to my creator I am finally free by letting go.,” he wrote.

Fadza Mutengi had become one of Poptain’s well-known releases, making the decision to delete it a surprising move for many fans.
