Orlando Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has delivered positive team news. He confirmed updates on Thalente Mbatha and Evidence Makgopa. Both players will feature in Saturday’s Soweto Derby. They face Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium.
The duo missed several matches this season. However, they now return at a crucial moment. Speaking on Thursday, Ouaddou confirmed their availability.
“About Makgopa, he’s still with the group. We’re very happy to welcome him back,” he said as per iDiski Times.
“He’s back in training and he’s feeling very well. So he’s one more player to have in our group.
“Another player as well, Mbatha I’m very happy that he joined the group because there were a lot of questions around him,” Ouaddou added.
“But he was injured as well and I’m happy to have him in the group.”
Pirates Eye Fifth Straight Derby Win
Pirates enter the derby with strong momentum. They have won four consecutive league matches against Amakhosi. A victory on Saturday could return them to the top. It would also boost confidence in the title race.
Pirates chase their first league crown in 14 years. Therefore, this derby carries extra pressure and importance.
High Stakes as Both Teams Chase Glory
However, the Buccaneers remain winless in two matches overall. They now seek a strong response this weekend. Both clubs only have the league to fight for. They exited the Nedbank Cup earlier this month.
Pirates enter as favourites on paper. However, the Soweto Derby always delivers surprises.
