A South African woman shared her ordeal of giving birth to twins 14 days apart and in different provinces.

The mother faces a rare case of delivering twin sons in separate provinces with a remarkable 14-day interval between births, only to lose one infant days later.

Medical professionals confirmed the first twin arrived at Kuruman Hospital in the Northern Cape on March 27, while the second twin was born at Universitas Academic Hospital in Bloemfontein on April 10. Tragically, the Free State Health Department announced the second newborn’s passing on Sunday.

“We regret to inform the public that the second twin delivered at Universitas Academic Hospital has sadly died,” stated Mondli Mvambi, spokesperson for the Free State Department of Health.

“When premature labour begins for one twin, physicians can sometimes halt the process to buy critical development time for the sibling,” explained neonatal specialists. “This complex procedure requires careful monitoring and specialized care to manage potential complications.”
