Alleged Demand After Power Disconnection
According to ZACC, Chinyemba initially disconnected electricity at a property in St Mary’s, Chitungwiza, claiming there were illegal connections.
It is alleged that he later approached the property owner, Clever Mpofu, demanding US$300 to facilitate reconnection and clear the supposed penalties.

Complaint Triggers Investigation
Suspicious of the demand, Mpofu is said to have verified the matter with ZESA, where he was informed that the payment request was not authorised.
He subsequently reported the incident to ZACC, prompting an investigation into the alleged misconduct.
Trap Leads to Arrest
Following the complaint, anti-corruption officers set up a sting operation that resulted in Chinyemba’s arrest.
Authorities say the operation was part of ongoing efforts to clamp down on corruption in public institutions.
Court Appearance Expected
Chinyemba is expected to appear in court soon to face bribery charges.
ZACC has reiterated its commitment to rooting out corruption and urged members of the public to report similar incidents involving abuse of office.
