Senior Manager Blows Over US$10 000 Betting On ‘Chindege’ Aviator
A senior manager at Farm & City Private Limited allegedly blew more than US$10 000 (approximately R189 000) on the Aviator betting game, commonly known locally as “Chindege” (airplane), before appearing in court facing theft charges.
Justine Ngoshi (39), an area manager with the retail company, appeared before Harare provincial magistrate Mr Michael Mafukidze last Friday, March 21, 2026, accused of diverting company funds meant for rent payments and spending the money on online betting.
Ngoshi was remanded in custody pending a full bail hearing as investigations continue.
According to The Herald, prosecutors allege that the accused collected US$10 200 (approximately R189 000) over several months but failed to deliver the money to the intended recipients.
“Between July 31, 2025, and February 28, 2026, the accused collected US$10 200 meant for rental payments for the Belgravia Farm and City shop,” the State alleged.
“The money was supposed to be handed over to Sawyer and Mkushi Legal Practitioners, but the accused allegedly diverted the funds for personal use.”
Funds Meant For Rent Allegedly Diverted
Court papers indicate that Ngoshi allegedly received the funds over a seven-month period beginning July 31, 2025.
The money was reportedly intended to cover rental obligations for Farm & City’s Belgravia branch in Harare.
However, the State alleges that instead of forwarding the funds, Ngoshi allegedly channelled the money into online betting activities.
“It is alleged that the accused diverted the money and spent it on betting on the Aviator game,” the prosecution told the court.
The Aviator game, popularly known in Zimbabwe as “Chindege”, has gained widespread popularity, with players betting on a rising multiplier before it crashes.
According to court submissions, the alleged actions only came to light after the company realised rental payments had not been made.
Nothing Recovered
Prosecutors also told the court that the entire US$10 200 (approximately R189 000) allegedly embezzled has not been recovered.
“The total amount embezzled is US$10 200 and nothing has been recovered,” the State submitted.
The court heard that Ngoshi was subsequently arrested and brought before the magistrate last Friday.
He remains in custody pending a full bail hearing.
The matter is expected to return to court soon as investigations continue.
