Springboks Player Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu Excited To Come Back After Injury

Springbok talent Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu has expressed his joy at returning to peak form following a frustrating seven-month injury struggle, just as the DHL Stormers intensify their United Rugby Championship (URC) playoff bid.

The 23-year-old utility back, crowned 2024 SA Rugby Young Player of the Year, endured a nightmare run of injuries that began with a knee problem during last year’s Rugby Championship. His comeback was repeatedly interrupted – first by concussion against the Sharks, then later by a painful hip pointer injury that further delayed his return to action.

Now fully fit, Feinberg-Mngomezulu has immediately made his presence felt, earning Player of the Match honors in the Stormers’ victory over Scarlets before playing a pivotal role in their narrow defeat to Ulster. Operating at flyhalf, he amassed 23 points across both fixtures, including two crucial drop goals.

Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu Appreciates The Game After Injury

“Between September and March, I’d managed just 90 minutes of rugby,” Feinberg-Mngomezulu revealed. “These past two matches alone have given me more game time than the entire seven-month period. I’m allowing myself some grace as I rebuild match sharpness – that mindset keeps me progressing.”

The young star spoke emotionally about his return:

“Stepping back onto the field with teammates I consider family, doing what I’m most passionate about – it’s an incredible feeling. The extended absence has made me appreciate every moment even more.”

Perfect Timing for Stormers’ Playoff Charge

Feinberg-Mngomezulu’s resurgence comes at a critical juncture for the Cape Town franchise, who currently sit tenth in the URC standings but remain firmly in playoff contention, just four points adrift of fifth place. With four consecutive home games approaching, the playmaker believes his team can secure maximum points to cement a top-eight finish.

“Playing at home gives us our best opportunity to claim 20 points from these four fixtures,” he explained. “Our supporters provide that extra energy when we need it most. In this competition, bonus points often separate the contenders from the also-rans – we need to chase five-point victories whenever possible.”

The Stormers begin their crucial home stretch against Connacht this weekend. They will clash with Benetton, Dragons, and Cardiff on 16 May—matches that will likely determine their playoff fate.
