Polygamy Turns Violent As Woman Scalds Co-Wife Over Shared Husband
A shocking domestic dispute turned violent in Bindura after a woman scalded her co-wife with boiling water over their shared husband, leading to a three-year prison sentence handed down on 15 April 2026.
The case was detailed in an official bulletin released on 15 April 2026.
Attack Unfolds At Co-Wife’s Residence
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), the incident occurred on 20 February 2026 at around 1600 hours in Chiwaridzo 3, Bindura.
The complainant reportedly went to her co-wife’s residence in search of their shared husband. What began as a routine visit quickly turned into a violent confrontation.
The NPAZ stated:
“Upon arrival, she found the offender seated on the veranda and inquired about the husband’s whereabouts. The offender briefly went inside the house under the pretext of checking for him.”
Moments later, the situation escalated dramatically.
“She emerged carrying a container filled with hot water and, without warning and at close range, deliberately poured it over the complainant before retreating into the house.”
Victim Left In Severe Pain
The victim reportedly suffered immediate and severe pain following the attack. Despite crying out for help, she did not receive immediate assistance.
Authorities revealed:
“The victim, left in severe pain, cried out for assistance but received no immediate help. She later sought aid from neighbours who administered first aid.”
The matter was subsequently reported to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), triggering legal proceedings.
Medical reports confirmed that the complainant sustained serious burns affecting her back, hands, and head. She was left bedridden due to the extent of her injuries.
Court Hands Down Three-Year Sentence
Following her arrest, the 25-year-old offender appeared before the Bindura Magistrates’ Court, where she pleaded guilty to the charge.
She was sentenced to an effective three years’ imprisonment.
The NPAZ emphasised the seriousness of such acts, stating:
“Acts of violence within domestic settings are treated with utmost seriousness. The law will take its course against perpetrators, regardless of the relationship between the parties.”
