In Zulu culture, umkhehlo is a pre-wedding ceremony meant to honor a woman who is about to get married.

Umkhehlo for Funani and Ayanda at Endlendle is one that is much awaited by viewers.

The popular show, which was only known for showcasing KwaMashu kasi lifestyle, has recently expanded to showcase the life of the rural area, Endlendle.

Uzalo series producer King David Mukwevho said show has always been committed to telling authentic Mzansi stories.

“These episodes not only celebrate the strength and resilience of women but also highlight the beauty of our cultural heritage. These ceremonies, indishi and umkhehlo, are not just cultural practices, they are powerful narratives that celebrate womanhood, resilience, and bonds that form our communities together.

“In honouring Women’s Month, it was essential to showcase the strength of our women through these traditional lenses, connecting their stories to the rich heritage that shapes their identities,” King said.

Faith Mgobhozi, who plays Nokuthula, will participate during indishi and umkhehlo.

She said preparing for her role required thorough research and a connection to her own cultural roots.

“I spent time with elders who have participated in umkhehlo, understanding not only the rituals but emotions and expectations surrounding the ceremony.
