Cyril Ramaphosa to lead 1st presidential imbizo of GNU era in Ekurhuleni

President Cyril Ramaphosa is hosting the first presidential imbizo of the new government administration on Friday.

The imbizo is being held at the Tsakane Sports Stadium in Ekurhuleni.

Community members in the East Rand township are expected to speak to the president about the crime and service delivery issues affecting the area.

At an average cost of about R11 million per event, the presidential imbizos have been slammed by opposition parties as expensive talk shops.

Opposition parties have also questioned whether there has been any benefit to the communities where these events are held.

However, the Presidency insists the imbizos are a crucial exercise of a state president’s duties, where he engages with people on the ground.

EWN understands Ramaphosa will be physically present for the Imbizo.

Ramaphosa withdrew from several engagements recently due to an eye infection.
