Zimbabwe Embassy Debunks “Free Deportation” Claims Circulating Online
The Zimbabwe Embassy in South Africa has moved swiftly to shut down claims that it is offering “free deportation” services, dismissing the circulating social media reports as false and misleading.
Embassy Speaks Out On Viral Claims
In a strongly worded notice dated 28 April 2026, the Embassy of the Republic of Zimbabwe in Pretoria addressed the claims directly. The statement was issued amid growing online chatter suggesting that Zimbabwean nationals could access free transport and deportation assistance.
Introducing the official position, the Embassy stated:
“The Embassy of the Republic of Zimbabwe in South Africa wishes to categorically refute the information circulating on social media alleging that the Embassy is offering ‘free deportation’ services and transportation for Zimbabwean citizens.”
The Embassy emphasised that the claims have no official backing and did not originate from any recognised government platform.
“The Embassy would like to state, in the strongest terms, that this information is false, misleading, and not issued by any official authority.”
It further clarified that no such programme exists under the Government of Zimbabwe.
“The Government of the Republic of Zimbabwe has not initiated or authorised any such programme.”
Public Urged To Ignore Misinformation
Authorities are now urging members of the public to treat the viral messages with caution. The Embassy warned that spreading unverified information could cause confusion among citizens, especially those seeking legitimate consular assistance.
The statement encouraged Zimbabweans in South Africa to rely only on official channels for updates and services.
“Members of the public are urged to disregard this misinformation and to rely only on official communication channels of the Embassy for verified information.”
The Embassy also appealed to the public to play a role in curbing the spread of falsehoods.
“The Embassy further encourages anyone who encounters such false notices to refrain from sharing them and to report them to the relevant authorities.”
Official Channels Highlighted
To avoid further confusion, the Embassy reiterated that all accurate and up-to-date information should be obtained directly through its recognised platforms. Contact lines for Pretoria, Johannesburg, and Cape Town consulates were provided as part of the official communication issued on 28 April 2026.
The Embassy concluded its notice by stressing the importance of verifying information before acting on it.
“For accurate and up-to-date information, please contact the Embassy directly through its official platforms.”
