Orlando Pirates set to beat rivals to Bafana Bafana star

According to local reports, Orlando Pirates are nearing a deal for Thabang Matuludi.

The Buccaneers recently contacted Polokwane City to finalise the transfer. Previously, Pirates failed to sign the 27-year-old defender last season.

Matuludi already has two caps for Bafana Bafana. Furthermore, he still has an outside chance of making the 2026 World Cup squad.

“Negotiations are now at an advanced stage. Matuludi is expected to be a Pirates player next season,” said a source.

Pirates Edge Closer to Ending Title Drought

Meanwhile, Orlando Pirates are closing in on their first league title since 2012.

Mamelodi Sundowns lost 3-2 to TS Galaxy on Wednesday. As a result, Pirates now need four points from two matches.

Four points would mathematically secure the title. However, even three points could still be enough.

Sundowns finished the campaign on 68 points. In comparison, Pirates currently sit on 65 points with two matches remaining.

Pirates also hold a superior goal difference. They currently stand at +44, while Sundowns remain on +36.

Importantly, Pirates have avoided heavy defeats this season. All three league losses came by a single goal.

Sea Robbers fans must still wait until 23 May for possible confirmation. Before then, Pirates face Durban City F.C. at home on Saturday, 16 May.
