Former Warriors Star Onismor Bhasera Robbed of US$12,000 Hidden in Tennis Shoes

Former Warriors Star Onismor Bhasera Loses US$12,000 Hidden in Tennis Shoes and Cash Box

Former Zimbabwe Warriors defender Onismor Bhasera reportedly lost US$12,000 that had been hidden inside tennis shoes and a cash box at his Mutare home over the weekend.

The South Africa-based footballer was not in the country at the time of the incident, while his wife and daughter had travelled to South Africa to visit him when the suspected theft occurred.

Two men linked to the case have since been arrested after they were allegedly discovered inside the house sleeping in Bhasera’s bedroom alongside two women.

Cash Hidden Inside House Goes Missing

Sources close to the investigations said US$10,000 had allegedly been concealed inside a pair of tennis shoes kept in a wardrobe, while another US$2,000 was stored in a cash box hidden behind a television set.

The missing money was only discovered after a relative who had been tasked with checking on the property visited the house.

According to information gathered by H-Metro, Bhasera’s wife, Siphathisiwe, had left Mutare on May 14 to travel to South Africa where the former Warriors player is currently based.

A family relative, Panashe Murahwa, had reportedly been asked to make routine inspections at the property during their absence.

Suspects Allegedly Found Inside Bedroom

When Murahwa arrived at the residence on May 16, he allegedly found Nyasha Chikadzakuwanani and Prosper Chiruka inside the house.

The two men were reportedly sleeping in the couple’s bedroom and were accompanied by two women at the time.

After informing Bhasera’s wife about the situation, Murahwa was allegedly instructed to remove the individuals from the house and recover the keys.

He was also asked to check whether the money hidden inside the house was still there.

However, both the cash hidden in the tennis shoes and the money kept in the cash box were reportedly missing.

Police Investigations Underway

The matter was reported to the police, leading to the arrest of the two suspects.

Investigations reportedly revealed that one of the suspects had allegedly been given access to the house keys by Bhasera’s daughter, although circumstances surrounding how the keys were handed over remain unclear.

The stolen money had not been recovered by the time of publication.

Acting Manicaland police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka referred questions to national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi, who could not be reached for comment.
