Two-Month-Old Baby Killed, 8 Learners Injured After Brake-Failed Scooter Crashes Into Karoi Classroom
A two-month-old baby girl was killed while eight learners were injured after a scooter towing a trailer reportedly lost its brakes and crashed into an unfinished classroom block at a private school in Chikuti, Karoi.
The fatal accident occurred around midday on Friday, according to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP).

Scooter Reportedly Reversed Uncontrollably
Police said the incident involved an unregistered DSM scooter that was towing a trailer loaded with suspected gold ore.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the scooter suffered brake failure, causing it to reverse uncontrollably before slamming into the classroom structure where a teacher, learners and the infant were gathered.
The impact caused debris from the unfinished building to collapse onto those at the scene.
Baby Dies at Scene
The infant reportedly became trapped beneath the scooter and falling rubble during the crash.
She sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The tragedy left parents, teachers and community members in shock as authorities moved in to assess the situation.
Eight Learners Hospitalised
Eight learners were injured in the accident and were rushed to Karoi District Hospital for treatment.
Police said two of the injured pupils were later transferred to Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital after their condition required specialised medical attention.
The extent of the learners’ injuries has not yet been disclosed.
Police Launch Investigations
Authorities have opened an investigation to establish the full circumstances surrounding the accident.
Police are expected to determine how the scooter came to be operating at the site and whether any negligence contributed to the fatal incident.
