Senzo Mchunu: SAPS looking at laying civil claims against criminals

Police Minister Senzo Mchunu believes criminals must pay, not just by serving time, but financially as well.

He was speaking at the commemoration of 39 officers killed in the line of duty.

Mchunu promised family members help to get restitution from those responsible.

“We’re exploring possibilities to how SAPS can assist families in civil claims against those responsible for the murder of police officers and this will soon become a reality. The initiative aims to ensure that justice is served not just through criminal procedures, but also by holding perpetrators financially accountable for the pain and loss they will have caused” he said.
